This is the true story of the local people in Sakata, who are fighting to protect the grand cabaret known as Shirobara. It is a building which used to be an icon of the Showa priod across Japan.
– In the Tohoku area (northern part of Japan), this symbol of the Showa still stands, but has been damaged over time. We want you to join this crowdfunding project to help save this building and restore it.
– About this project..
~ We want to reopen and restore the grand cabaret once again and bring it into mint condition! ~
In 2015, the Shirobara cabaret closed down after a 57-year run. It was a sad event for those who love the Showa era’s cabaret and pop culture. Shirobara played a very important role as an icon of the Showa era. Now the building is getting older, however, a dedicated team is working hard to preserve this historic building and bring new life into it. With summer fast approaching and winter not too far off, we need to tackle this project immediately. One of our main goals is to make the building compliant with fire and safety regulations – this will require funding.
– We need the following amount of money..
In the reality we need to raise JPY3.500.000.-(equivalent to about $31.000.- or €28.000.-) in order to maintain the building. The money will be used to renew the building so that it complies with modern fire and safety regulations, including the implementation of items such as an automatic fire alarm system, smoke detectors, and induction lamps (For around JPY 2.500.000.-). About 250,000 yen will be used for electric and maintenance bills. The rest of the money will be used for furthering this cause and for covering the running costs of this organization.

The Presenters ~ Hitoshi Sato ~
Hello. I am Hitoshi Sato, the third master of the Hiyoriyama Hotel, which has been supported by local people for seven decades. I was born in Sakata and have a strong love for this city and the Shonai region. I love to “connect” people’s passions! So call me The Connector(Not the promotor..).
Since the high school when I belonged to the cheering group, up until now when I am over 50, the passion to cheer people and connect people are y joy. For example, in 2007, I placed a hundred Free Wi-Fi spots in our city to facilitate public communication. Also, although we could not make it, I tried to protect another heritage local-traditional building named National Storage (like the Yokohama Red Brick Storehouse) in town, and tried to protect a local-old-fashioned kids candy shop. Unfortunately, the city administration is not normally interested in the historical things, but the city citizens have an affection for these heritage sites because they grew up with these; they have fond memories and hopes.
The Shirobara is an historical building that belongs to all of the Tohoku area, not just Sakata or Yamagata, but the entire region. It is an historical icon and we are against demolishing it. We aim to preserve and protect this beautiful cultural treasure.
